Custom Lighting Projects
Interior designers turn to me to create innovative custom lighting. I relish the chance to build these functional sculptures that elevate the tone and look of a space. I fabricate and cast custom lighting structures as well as handle all aspects of production, including machining and wiring.
This is a series of 13 custom shell lights created for The Dunes Club in Narragansett, RI.
The shell lights each start out as an individual wax mold. Each is handcrafted and totally unique.
The wax gating on each shell will allow air to leave the structure as metal is poured in.
Each wax is dipped multiple times in a slurry to create a ceramic shell.

The ceramic shell is placed in an oven to remove the wax and then liquid aluminum is poured into the shells to create aluminum casts.
The cast aluminum shells before the ceramic shell is fully removed.
The cast aluminum shells were painted with red oil paint.
The shells were then gilded with silver leaf.
The silver leaf comes in tiny sheets that must be applied very gently!
